Who We Are

Bloom was built with communities in mind.

Over the years, we’ve all seen many cases of greenwashing as companies try to report on their sustainability efforts. We’ve also seen many private sector actors with good intentions struggle with how to track and report on their impact, while being far removed from the first mile of their supply chains. Similarly, we’ve needed a better way to measure our own initiatives within communities—to understand the positive and sometimes unintended negative impact to be able to properly adjust. Importantly, we’ve wanted to ensure that local communities and supply chain actors themselves are benefitting from the data they provide.

As the movement towards improving supply chain traceability or reporting on environmental, social and governance (ESGs) targets and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has grown, so too has the overwhelming nature of the task. Standards are not designed to be easily harmonized with others and no standard language exists on “responsible sourcing.”

With Bloom, users can prove their compliance claims and social impact on communities in the first mile of the supply chain.

Bloom was built with these communities in mind. With Bloom, we want to encourage transformative global change, seed development and resiliency, which ultimately will reduce supply chain risks.

The idea for Bloom came from decades of research and experience implementing projects to support transparent supply chains, especially IMPACT’s efforts working with communities in Democratic Republic of Congo to implement conflict-free and legal artisanal gold supply chains.

IMPACT

IMPACT is an international non-profit with over 35 years of experience in transforming how natural resources are managed in areas where security and human rights are at risk. It is a global leader, collaborating with local partners for lasting change. IMPACT has offices and programming in Canada and across Africa.

Knowledge for Impact

Bloom is a project of Knowledge for Impact. Knowledge for Impact is a social enterprise established by IMPACT to support partners to confidently know what type of lasting change they are making on the ground. At the same time, it empowers local actors in the supply chain to own their data and claim its value to advance development, peace, and equality. It develops innovative solutions with local partners to support transparency and enable artisanal producers and their communities to benefit from the value of the data they provide.
